The two product lines, and how to choose within them

Cordless vacuums

Suction figures quoted in pascals are the headline number, but they are measured at the motor, not at the floor head. Two things affect what you actually feel:

• Runtime at the power level you will really use. Quoted runtime is almost always on the lowest setting. On boost, expect a fraction of it. If you have a whole house to do, look at whether the battery is removable — a second battery is cheaper than a second vacuum.
• Filtration and bin emptying. A sealed filter matters if anyone in the house reacts to dust. A bin that empties without you putting a hand near the dust is worth more day to day than another few thousand pascals.

Jump starters

Match the peak amp rating to your engine, not to the price. A four-cylinder petrol engine needs far less than a large diesel, and a unit that is underspecified will crank slowly or not at all when it is cold — which is exactly when you need it. Check the clamp cable length too; short cables are awkward on vehicles where the battery sits deep in the bay.

Using the codes

Practical note
