Eau de parfum vs eau de toilette — where your money goes
The same fragrance name is often sold in several concentrations, and the difference is not marketing. It is how much perfume oil is in the bottle:
- Eau de toilette (EDT) — lighter, fades faster. Good for daytime, hot weather and office wear.
- Eau de parfum (EDP) — stronger and longer-lasting. Usually the better value per wear despite the higher price, because you use less.
- Parfum / extrait — the most concentrated and most expensive; a little goes a long way.
If you are choosing between a large EDT and a smaller EDP at a similar price, the EDP is normally the better buy for evening and colder months.
Size is where the discount compounds
Fragrance pricing is not linear. A 100ml bottle is often only modestly more than a 50ml, so the cost per ml drops sharply as size increases.
