Three products, three different codes

This is the thing most people get wrong here. lastminute.com issues separate codes for each product type, and they are not interchangeable:

• Flight codes — apply to flight-only bookings, usually a fixed dollar amount above a minimum spend.
• Hotel codes — apply to hotel-only bookings, usually a percentage with a cap on the maximum discount.
• Package codes — apply to flight-plus-hotel bookings only, and typically carry both a higher minimum spend and a minimum number of travellers.

Entering a hotel code on a flight booking returns a rejection that looks like an expired code. It usually is not — it is the wrong product.

Reading the terms that matter

• Minimum spend is calculated before taxes and fees on some booking paths and after on others. If you are close to the line, it is worth checking at the payment step rather than assuming.
• Maximum discount caps percentage codes. On an expensive package a capped 10% can be worth less than a flat-dollar flight code applied to the flight leg booked separately.
• Minimum travellers — several package and hotel codes require two or more people on the booking. A solo trip will be refused.
• Payment route — the discount applies to bookings paid in full at checkout. Rates where you pay the hotel directly on arrival are excluded.

Package versus booking separately

Packages are often cheaper before any code is applied, because the operator buys the seat and the room together. Price both ways: package price with the package code, against flight price with the flight code plus hotel price with the hotel code. Which wins genuinely varies by route and season.

One practical warning

Codes are applied at the payment stage, not in the basket. Do not complete payment expecting to add the code afterwards — travel bookings are rarely adjusted after issue.
