How direct-to-consumer lab testing works
You choose the test online, pay up front, and are issued a lab requisition. You take that to a partner draw site, give the sample, and the result arrives in your own account. There is no clinic appointment and no insurance claim, which is why the price is visible before you order.
Panel or single test
- Panels bundle several markers and are priced well below buying each one separately. Sensible when you are getting a general picture rather than checking one thing.
- Single tests are right when you know exactly what you are checking, or you are re-testing after a previous result.
- Add-ons are charged separately, so read what a panel does and does not include before assuming it covers you.
Preparation changes the result
Several common tests need fasting — typically eight to twelve hours with water only. Lipid panels and fasting glucose are the usual ones. Turning up unfasted means either an unreliable number or a second visit. Each test page states its own requirement; check it the day before, not on the way there.
Timing matters too. Hormone levels move through the day and through a cycle, and some tests are only meaningful in a particular window.
Using the discount
Personalabs codes are entered on the order page before payment and take a percentage off the test price. The draw fee, where one applies, is usually outside the discount. One code per order.
