What Tenergy actually sells
Tenergy is a battery and charging company rather than a general electronics brand, and its catalogue splits into four groups worth knowing before you shop:
- Rechargeable cells — NiMH AA, AAA, C, D and 9V, sold loose and in multi-packs, plus button cells and lithium packs for tools and hobby use.
- Chargers — from simple two-bay units to multi-bay smart chargers that charge, discharge and test each cell independently.
- Power and lighting — power banks, portable power supplies, torches and rechargeable lanterns.
- Household and kitchen gear built around the same battery technology.
Low self-discharge, and why it matters more than capacity
The single most useful thing to understand about rechargeable AA and AAA cells is the difference between standard high-capacity NiMH and low self-discharge (LSD) cells.
A standard high-capacity cell holds more energy when freshly charged, but loses a meaningful share of it sitting in a drawer. An LSD cell holds slightly less to begin with and keeps most of its charge for months or years. For a remote, a smoke alarm, a torch or a clock — anything that sits unused between uses — the LSD cell is the better buy even though its number on the label is smaller.
Reserve the highest-capacity cells for things that drain fast and get recharged straight away: camera flashes, game controllers, wireless mice, children’s toys.
Which charger is worth the money
Chargers are where people either save money or quietly destroy the cells they just bought.
- Independent channels. A charger that treats each bay separately can charge one, two or three cells at any state. A paired-channel charger insists on even numbers and charges pairs as one unit, which slowly damages mismatched cells.
- Negative delta-V or timer cut-off. A charger that detects a full cell and stops is the difference between cells that last years and cells that cook.
- A discharge or refresh function. Useful for reviving a pack of cells that has lost capacity, and for testing which cell in a set is the weak one.
- Capacity readout. A charger that reports mAh put into each cell tells you when a cell is finished, instead of leaving you guessing why a device keeps dying.
A better charger extends the life of every cell you own, so it is usually the highest-return purchase on the whole site.
Buying cells in the right quantity
Rechargeable cells are cheapest per unit in larger packs, and the arithmetic is not close — an eight or twelve pack is normally far better value than two packs of four. Two practical points follow from that:
- Buy cells in matched sets and keep them together. Cells wear at different rates, and mixing an old cell with three new ones in the same device drags all four down.
- Buy one set more than you need. Having a charged set waiting is what makes rechargeables genuinely more convenient than disposables, rather than merely cheaper.
How to use a Tenergy promo code
- Add the cells, charger or bundle you want to the cart on the Tenergy store.
- Open the cart or checkout page and find the promo or discount code field.
- Paste the code exactly as shown, with no trailing space, and apply it.
- Check that the order total changes before you pay — if it does not, the code has a condition attached, usually a minimum order value or a product exclusion.
Only one code applies per order on almost every store, so when a sitewide sale is already running, compare the sale price against the code price rather than assuming they stack.
Where the savings really come from
- Bundles. A charger-plus-cells kit is normally cheaper than the two bought separately, and it guarantees the charger suits the chemistry.
- Multi-packs. The step from a four-pack to a twelve-pack usually saves more than any percentage code.
- Free-shipping thresholds. Batteries are heavy for their value, so shipping is a real part of the total. Reaching the free-shipping threshold with an extra pack of cells often costs less than paying postage.
- Email sign-up offers. A first-order code is frequently the largest single discount the store gives.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use rechargeable cells in anything that takes alkaline batteries?
In almost everything, yes. A NiMH cell sits at 1.2V against an alkaline cell’s 1.5V, which a few voltage-sensitive devices notice — some older smoke alarms and a handful of digital thermometers. Everything with a motor, a light or a radio in it is fine, and usually runs better.
How many times can a rechargeable cell be recharged?
Good NiMH cells are rated for several hundred to a couple of thousand cycles depending on the type and how gently they are charged. The charger matters as much as the cell: overcharging is what shortens the life.
Do rechargeable batteries need to be fully discharged first?
No. That advice belongs to old NiCd cells, which had a memory effect. NiMH cells prefer topping up and dislike being run flat.
How should cells be stored?
Cool, dry, and out of a device that draws a trickle of current. Store them at partial charge rather than empty, and keep loose cells in a case so the terminals cannot bridge against coins or keys.
Is one code per order the rule?
Yes, on this store as on most. Take the larger of the two offers rather than trying to combine them.
